Mac McAllister has a diverse media background. He attended Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California, and in the 60s covering a wide spectrum of events, from the emergence of the cool jazz scene in LA, to racial unrest and the Black Panther Party in San Francisco. His photographs and articles appeared in several national publications, including a record cover for Pacific Jazz Records.
In the 70s, Mac added an entirely new artistic direction, and was a radio DJ at KYAC in Seattle, Washington, and had the first jazz show on AM radio. He then became a TV journalist at an ABC-TV affiliate in Spokane, Washington. He covered a wide spectrum of stories, from producing and directing a special of the William Jones Basketball Tournament in Taipei, Taiwan to the Aryan Nations in Idaho. Seeking a new direction, Mac returned to school to pursue a career in screenwriting, and spent his third year at the Sorbonne in Paris, France. Returning to the University of Washington for his final year, he won the prestigious Academy of Arts and Sciences Nicholl Screenwriting Regional Award 1988, and was a first round semi finalist.
His videos were selected for 2005Art Expo International in Italy, and the Urban Flesh and Blood Exhibit held in Kaliningrad, Russia. Mac McAllister was one of the few American artist selected for these international competitions. In 2006 his videos were selected for the Emmy Awards in a new category, “Outstanding Achievement in Content for Non-Traditional Platforms”. His photos have appeared in the Seattle P.I. and several national and international publications on the Internet.
